This is a concept based jouurnal that includes the background information involved with this project and the work that took place in its development.
The concept of the film was to be based on a genre, The genre assigned to our particular groiup was called SCI-FI
Science fiction was a genre that i found to be rather confusing with what i would call a large Grey area down the middle of it.So the first real task i found in this assignment was learning and understanding the realities of what is Science Fiction
Science fiction in my mind is a open genre that is very space galatica based with examples like Star Trek, Intiquite parts of Science fiction include features such as fantasy and technology, it inhibits the fact that you might be able to see it in your mind but it is yet to be created. Although it aint yet created there is a element of ore around the fact that a creation of that type is just around the corner, and in some way i guess we strive to put this into our film.
The next element that we looked at was the narrative involved in our story, I found this exact portion of the film to be rather complicated as i was unable to quickly put it into the right mindset to make this film effective.
The next real focus was looking at how we could implement different film techniques to allow the story to be illustrated in greater perspective.Camera angles were our next method of attack, I never really understood how camera angles were affecting the way that movies are made, Studying the different styles of camera angles and so forth help me gain a greater appreciation for the art in which these directors envision. They are seriously creative people.
When it came to film day there were a number of other roles that i quickly became fondly appreciative of,
ACTORS
Well in analyzing the way in which i personally performed in my acting debut i feel more than safe in saying that actors are indeed very professional in they way in which they perform there tasks. My efforts were far from professional and im proud that only the BCT get to see it
SET WORKERS
Well as i later found out there is a lot to be learnt about the way in which a set is prepared. For visual and audio effects ( especially sound in my particular case.)
The alley way i had chosen for the shooting set seemed ideal based on the storyboards we had made for our group but the hovering sounds of the fans and so forth where a real pain when it came to edit time.
With all the filming done and dusted we moved on to the editing stage, It was rather good that we took a lot of footage as myself and ma'ake kept on continuously making mistakes with what we were doing on set. But i found the editing stage bit of trouble as i do not have the programs that the others in our class have and to add to the issue i am only familiar with programs i had previously used. (Sony Vegas)
Dan had the editing of visual footage under control and with input of the whole team we were able to sort that side of the film rather nicely, After the editing was done the SFX and sound were added by myself ( which i was not overly impressed by my personal result ) and then we set the film to DVD with a menu and credits.
I feel there are things in retrospect that we could've improved on and then there were things that we really did well. As a team i felt that once we had direction and knew where were going with our ideas we were able to do the job effectively and efficiently.
JOB DONE :)
